2/23/9- Sunday is the day

Posted by Hunter on February 23, 2009 at 8:55 pm in

2/23/9- Well,  Last  Sunday’s warm up show is behind me and next Sunday’s “official” beginning of Hunter at Sunrise awaits.

I am very happy to welcome, singer-songwriter, Julie Clark, back to the show. Been talking to the engineer this afternoon on how to configure the studio to make her live session possible.

Also have a session set up with Steve Poltz whose visiting the Jewish Mother this Thursday…going to have to record that one.

Looks like it’s going to be a busy week and an exciting first show…and hopefully it will be on demand by next week on this website and WHRV.org…

All for now…

2/21/2- Yet Another show ahead

Posted by Hunter on February 21, 2009 at 5:54 pm in

2/21/2- Well, tomorrow I’m doing yet another warm up show live on this website and on 89.5 WHRV HD 3…

I’m particularly happy with the new music for this show having discovered a great new cd from Luka Bloom and one that came out late last year from Calexico. I plan to continue featuring City and Colour, Fiction Family, Ana Egge, and Chris & Thomas.

I’m going to see Kathleen Edwards tonight at the Attucks…hoping to get as much sleep as I can…tomorrow comes real early.

2/20/9–Wow, what a Morning…

Posted by Hunter on February 20, 2009 at 9:49 am in

2/20/9- It’s been some morning…First, I woke up and found a comment on my blog about the new show from someone living in Korea who was glad the show was now on-line..(you can see it in the comments section to the right of this page). I guess the show really has gone world-wide.

Then I open the Virginian Pilot and see a great article from Jeff Maisey about the show…Mike Rau, the webmaster, then sends me the article from Sam McDonald that is in this morning’s Daily Press…wow, and the morning is only about 4 hours old.

I guess there is no turning back now…we have a radio show on our hands. With that in mind, I spent the better part of last night sorting through my CDs to see which ones I am most likely to play on the show going forward. One conclusion I came away with…I have an awful lot of discs.

I lined up Norfolk’s Julie Clark to be a live interview for the show’s “official” debut March 1st(although I am doing a show this Sunday, as well, with no guest).

I will be doing an interview with Karl Werne, Lawrence Lambert, BJ Liederman, and Tray Eppes (an all star lineup) tomorrow that will air at a later date.

And I am trying to get an interview with West Coast singer-songwriter Steve Poltz when he is here at the Jewish Mother on Thursday…wish me luck with that one…

Looking forward to seeing the folks at the Attucks Theater tomorrow night as they welcome Kathleen Edwards…that is going to be a great show.

Enough…it’s going to be a long day and a long weekend as I prepare for this Sunday’s show…See you there….

2/15/9 First Day Retrospective

Posted by Hunter on February 15, 2009 at 7:40 pm in

2/15/9 -Well, the first show is history and it felt good to be back in a studio spinning music.

There were only a couple of times when I slipped up and mentioned the old show…considering how long I’ve been off the air, that’s pretty good.

The structure of the breaks obviously needs work, but as we go forward there will be more recorded messages to work with.

Musically, I felt the show was solid. I am particularly impressed by new discs from City & Colour, Ana Egge and Chris & Thomas. You can expect more from them in the weeks to come.

As for the five hour length of the show, it felt good..I felt like I could have gone longer. We’ll see how I feel next Sunday.

Till then,

HH

2/15/9 – Good Morning and welcome to the first Sunday of what I hope will be another long run of this show…

As I write this it is about 5 am in the morning and I am putting down one more entry before I make the drive into WHRV…

The coffee tastes good and I am waking up…there’s a lot of music ahead…

I hope you enjoy the show…

2/13/9 Just Two Days to go

Posted by Hunter on February 13, 2009 at 10:19 pm in

2/13/9–Ok, I’ve just spent my afternoon with three engineers literally building a studio into the one I will use Sunday.

Needless to say, it has been an education…but I feel I am ready…I am just glad that at least one of those engineers will be on site when I begin this show.

I now have to plow through about 20 cds that are either new or came out while I was off the air.

Why am I doing this again?
Oh Yeah…I read this this afternoon…

“Just letting you know that I am happy you are back on the air. Good radio is sooooooo hard to find these days.”

I guess that’s the reason…

Tomorrow I have the task of moving about 2000 cds into the studio…hope there’s room…

By the way, feel free to leave a comment here on my blog…it’s open to everyone…

2/10/9 Hopefully this Sunday..

Posted by Hunter on February 11, 2009 at 1:31 am in

Well, I’m starting to get a little excited. I have gone over the studio with the WHRV engineers and I feel I have a handle on what is happening there. I hope to go over it again with them this Friday to make sure I know what I am doing.

The show is being produced initially in the production studio of Hear Say…the place where Kathy Lewis does her show everyday.

It will be done bare bones…just a bunch of CDs and me…. for some reason I am comforted by that. I just am not sure where I am going to put all of the discs when I am not using them. Considering how big the WHRO/WHRV studios are, you would think there would be a closet or something. (Sigh) I will figure it out.

I am working on the music I will play this Sunday…I’m not going to stretch the envelope too much…

Hope everyone will tune in to hear what happens.

From Hunter: The radio resurrection begins

Posted by Hunter on February 2, 2009 at 11:23 pm in

Well, this is my very first blog entry anywhere…so I’m going to try to make it brief… With the construction of this website and the broadcast of Hunter at Sunrise on WHRV HD-3, I am entering new and uncharted territory.

There are so many ways to go…so many spaces to explore.

But with that said, it’s time to keep grounded and focused…I’ve been thinking about music and how I will shape it in this new show…it’s wide open, more wide open than it’s ever been before…and with the advent of this new website…well, it’s adding a dimension that I’ve never dealt directly with before. (luckily I have help in that endeavor thanks to Mike, the webmaster).

Sometime this week I will be getting with the engineers at WHRV and working for the first time in a new studio and programming platform.
I’ve been feeding music like mad into this new computer…eventually I’m going to have to pull it out of there and throw it out to the world. I’m contemplating new voices on the show and fresh approaches to the old presentation…

The adventure is beginning..welcome aboard…
