KEVIN SO TO PERFORM ON AREA'S FIRST EVER RADIO LIVE VIDEO STREAM

Nashville recording artist, Kevin So, will visit Hunter at Sunrise this Sunday, and to

Kevin So

celebrate we are presenting something never before attempted by a local radio show.

Hunter at Sunrise will be streaming live video on the web starting at 11am. The segment will include a Kevin So interview and performance. Kevin has just released his latest CD, a solo acoustic effort called "Best Foot Forward".

With the help of WHRO/WHRV's technical staff, you'll be able to see behind the scenes as I do my show and interview with Kevin when you visit hunteratsunrise.com and whrv.org.

Kevin's Website is:  http://www.kevinso.com/

About Kevin So:

The Boston Globe calls Kevin So...."Riveting...impeccable...fast developing...unusually talented..."

Kevin is one of the most exciting and powerful singer/songwriters to emerge from the Boston music scene. Making a name for himself as a boundary-stretching singer/songwriter, So's original blend of pop, rhythm & blues, and hip hop has garnered the attention and praise from Billy Bragg, Martin Sexton, Mary Lou Lord, Richie Havens, David Wilcox, and most recently Keb’ Mo’.

Kevin is one of the most recognized artists in the Asian American community. He, too admits that “there aren’t enough of us.” Fans all over the world have caught on to So's lyrical truths and his knack for engaging people through his music, intense storytelling, and foot stomping performances. He has been nominated 8 times for the Boston Music Awards and has opened for some of the industry's best known acts including Joe Cocker, Randy Newman, Richie Havens, Billy Bragg, Mary Lou Lord, Livingston Taylor, Ellis Paul, Martin Sexton, Chris Smither, and Dar Williams.

After a stint in New York where he released his last album, "A Brighter Day", Kevin now resides in Nashville where his new disc, "Best Foot Forward" was recorded and released.

In addition to his appearance on Hunter at Sunrise, Kevin will be performing at the Otani Grill, 1532 Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, this Friday, June 5th. Admission is free, so I hope you'll come by and check him out.

Local Internet radio show is quality

(This originally ran in the Daily Press)

March 3, 2009

In this week's column, I will engage in shameless hucksterism.

Here's how:

I have this old friend named Hunter Hughes. Now as it happens, Hunter is perhaps the most talented programmer of music in the Hampton Roads area. So much so that for many years, he had his own special little radio show on Sunday mornings that acquired something of a cult following.

His show was canceled late last year by the same type of people who are responsible for almost ruining the American music industry.

But as reported by Sam McDonald several days ago, Hunter launched a new show called "Hunter at Sunrise" on March 1.

Eclectic radio show will rise again

HERE COMES THE SUN. Hunter Hughes returns to the airwaves March 1, but you’ll need a high-definition radio or an Internet connection to hear his eclectic radio show.

“Hunter at Sunrise” will air live on Sundays from 7 a.m. to noon on RadioNtenna (89.5 WHRV-FM, HD3), the local public radio station’s digital channel. It will also stream live at www.whro.org and www.hunteratsunrise.com.

“The show seems to have come about as a result of many e-mails from listeners of ‘Sunrise on Sunday’ asking WHRV to pick up the show,” Hughes said.

Local favorite DJ gets new gig on digital radio

From the Daily Press, 02-21-09

After Hunter Hughes disappeared from the local radio airwaves last fall, a pack of music fans howled.

Bob-FM, also known as WPYA-FM (93.7), bounced Hughes from the helm of the show "Sunrise on Sunday," saying that the program's blend of light jazz, acoustic music from singer-songwriters and live performances by local players didn't attract a large enough audience. But for a core of loyal listeners, Hughes' show was something special. For them, it was essential listening, the kind of radio program you plan your life around.

Since Hughes' dismissal, fans and friends have worked behind the scenes to get Hughes' distinctive, calm voice back on the air. Thanks to new technology, they're seeing success.
